my final year research project

since last Monday, i've been camping inside the lab from 9.30am - 5pm everyday!! this week is the 2nd week n i hav 1 more week to go..weeEEeee~~

these lab sessions are part of my final year research project...n the title is " Mechanical Properties of Silicone Strips"

hahaAHahah...i bet u dint know the other uses of silicone besides making women's boobies bigger....

let me tell u laa...silicones are also used in making contact lenses, heart valves, finger joints...

and because of its ability to control the release of drugs (So tht drugs can be released slowly for a long period of time..then ppl dun have to keep popping pills..yada yada)...it's used in transdermal patches, intravaginal devices etc etc.....

at 1st i tot i was goin to deal with intravaginal devices u kno....it's like so interesting rite....*i have a thing for reproductive system related stuff...*

mana tau...my supervisor wanted us to deal with silicone strips that can be delivered to the small intestines to treat inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)....-_-

okla...fine! there r 6 of us in a grp...n i was assigned the most non-chemistry/totally-physics related topic....dono whether should feel fortunate or unfortunate....hmmMMmm

soo0oo...this is what i do everyday...

i hang different weights of masses on the strips to see how much it can STRETCH....thus my professor likes to call me "THE STRETCHER!!"....okkaaayyyyyyy.....

creative onot?? hahaha...none of it was my idea FYI.....all my professor's idea.....

BUT....the BUBBLE WRAP..was my idea.....u know y.....those masses fall if the strips break..n they make loud "DONG's!" when they hit the table...hahaha...so to prevent mua from going deaf or getting a heart attack....i decided to put the bubble wrap there....

n this is how i make silicone strips.....i spread the silicone onto glass slides n let them harden (they will harden cuz i added some secret recipe la!)....the HAIRDRYER there is to make the hardening process faster....NONE of these were my idea too....haihz..i tell u ar..my creativity = zero

im bonding with my silicones so well tht when i weigh them, i could accurately scoop out the amount i want....(tho it happened jus once! but considered quite geng adi when the weighing balance is in 2 decimal points k!)...

thus im also known as "THE SILICONE QUEEN" by my professor.....-_-

im not going to go anywhere near silicone after i finish my lab sessions man...my hair has silicone, my fingers have silicone eventho i've washed them....i SMELL like silicone...blllarrddyyy!!

btw, i also make mango jeruk in the lab....

ok...enuff....anymore interesting stuff i'll post them up la....but dun keep ur hopes high....i doubt there's gonna b any interesting stuff happening in the lab....unless there's a fire or sthn la...*touchwood*....

******************

lastly, RUMAH SS would like to wish every1......

an advanced HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!! GONG XI FA CAI!!!

eh... when gonna make silicone for me? i need it largh....xD

you need to know its physical properties well to make sure, say, that it won't get clogged up in the intestine, right? :) in light of its pharmacological potential cool experiment nevertheless

mein: nola..my prof treats every1 tht good 1...he's a really nice guy!! i duwan to stay in this miserable place la..

nee: erm...if u can find urself a surgeon i dun mind making some silicones for ya! muahahaha....i shall put my initials on it summo so when xray tht time mayb can see my name...

anonymous: it's to see whether the silicone can withstand the intestinal forces..it would only be a really thin strip so it wun clog up the intestine...dun worry! haha...

silicon is the 2nd most abundant element after oxygen and besides being used to make fake bewbs, its one most important use in the 20th century is the production of semiconductors devices for microchips. No silicon = stone age and um, no big big bewbs. Engineers just cant shut up.

"n they make loud "DONG!""

oooohh girl, you speako veli bad engrish!

bc: wow...maybe i can include tht in my intro...haha...jjk....u engineers ar...

ping: okla..i change la...dint realise ma...laugh at ppl..hmph!

haha, actually my research thesis deals with silicon in microchips and the stress-shear tensile test you did looked very engineering-ish - it caught my attention

n they make loud "DONG's!"

that's still not right fyi.. kekekekeke
